Fat Has Some Virtues

Fat is your WORST enemy… WRONG!
Did you know that fat actually has some virtues?
*
It’s only when people consume too much or too little that your health is affected.
*
Fat supplies essential fatty acids for growth, healthy skin, vitamin-absorption and regulation of bodily functions. In moderation and the right fats, you can actually control cholesterol and prevent heart disease!
*
There are several different types of fats.
I’m not going to get into the chemistry of it all, but just remember than there are two categories, good and bad fats. Here is the break down:
*images-3
BAD FATS:
Trans fatsimages-4
– Deep fried foods, cakes, cookies, doughnuts, crackers, chips, margarine, cheese, meat and dairy products
Saturated fats
– Whole milk, cream, butter, cheese, fatty cuts of beef and pork, coconut, palm, pies, cookies, doughnuts
*

GOOD FATS:

Mono and Polyunsaturated fats (Non-Saturated)images-1
– Olive oil, peanut oil, avocado, Vegetable oils, nuts and seeds
Omega-3 and 6
– Fish, Canola oil, flaxseed oil, walnuts, flaxseeds
*
*
Like everything, these fats are only good in moderation! Fat should account for 20-35% of your daily diet. Here is the breakdown in grams:
1200 calories: 46g or less
1400 calories: 54g or less
1600 calories: 62g or less
1800 calories: 70g or less
2000 calories: 77g of less
*
So check your nutrition labels and stay way from those saturated and trans fats! Choose meats low in fat such as chicken (white meat to be exact. It has less saturated fats), fish, and all those fruits and veggies! Cook with olive oil instead and limit the amount of crackers you are eating! Limit your butter and stay away from the sticks, they have more saturated fats!

Enjoy those “GOOD” fats!

I went on an extremely limited fat diet back in the day and lost my gall bladder in the process. Elminating all fat definitely harmed me.

We most definitely need our fats in limited amounts.
I like getting mine from avocado, nuts, a small amount of butter and olive oil.

WOW! Sorry to hear about this. Thanks for sharing. Just more evidence that people need some fat.

I can’t stand when say they don’t eat almonds because they are full of fat! They are GOOD fat. Our bodies need fat 🙂

OMG katschi that stinks! I do agree that some fats are good, like fats form nuts, soooo good! But some fats, like the one I ate in that peice of fried dough (I REALLY fell off the wagon yesterday, but don’t worry I only ate 1/3 of a peice!) are horrible. But in moderation I guess bad fats aren’t too bad. (I almost wrote they wouldn’t kill you, but then I realized they might!)

That picture of the main sinking in the boat makes me want to get up and start exercising LOL.

This is a good post. I definitely want to include nuts in my diet more because at least with nuts, you will like you are eating something healthy but it isn’t too liquidy.

My mom decided fat was bad and cut it all out of her diet. It wasn’t long before she started having skin and scalp problems. We had a hard time convincing her that she needed some fat, but finally she gave in. She’s still too thin and her skin is always dry, but I doubt she’ll ever go back to her daily liverwurst sandwich and bowl of ice cream!
